अष्टछाप कवि : कृष्णदास,

अष्टछाप के प्रथम चार कवियों में अन्तिम कृष्णदास अधिकारी हैं। उनका जन्म सन् 1495 ई. के आसपास गुजरात प्रदेश के एक ग्रामीण कुनबी परिवार में हुआ था। सन् 1509 ई. में वे पुष्टिमार्ग में दीक्षित हुए और सन् 1575 और 1581 ई. के बीच उनका देहावसान हुआ।

बाल्यकाल से ही कृष्णदास में असाधारण धार्मिक प्रवृत्ति थी। 12-13 वर्ष की अवस्था में उन्होंने अपने पिता के एक चोरी के अपराध को पकड़कर उन्हें मुखिया के पद से हटवा दिया था। इसके फलस्वरूप पिता ने उन्हें घर से निकाल दिया और वे भ्रमण करते हुए ब्रज में आ गये। कृष्णदास में असाधारण बुद्धिमत्ता, व्यवहार-कुशलता और संघटन की योग्यता थी। पहले उन्हें वल्लभाचार्य ने भेंटिया (भेंट उगाहनेवाला) के पद पर रखा और फिर उन्हें श्रीनाथजी के मन्दिर के अधिकारी का पद सौंप दिया। अपने इस उत्तरदायित्व का कृष्णदास ने बड़ी योग्यता से निर्वाह किया। मन्दिर पर गौड़ीय वैष्णव सम्प्रदायके बंगाली ब्राह्मणों का प्रभाव बढ़ता देखकर कृष्णदास ने छल और बल का प्रयोग कर उन्हें निकाल दिया। अपने उद्देश्य की पूर्ति के लिए कृष्णदास को बंगालियों की झोपड़ियों में आग लगानी पड़ी तथा उन्हें बाँसों से पिटवाना पड़ा। उनकी असाधारण बुद्धिमत्ता, व्यवहार कुशलता और संघटन योयता से प्रभावित होकर वल्लभाचार्य ने उन्हें भेटिया (भेंट संग्रह करनेवाला) के पद पर नियुक्त किया और फिर शीघ्र उन्हें श्रीनाथ जी के मंदिर का अधिकारी बना दिया। उन्होंने अपने इस उत्तरदायित्व का बड़ी योग्यता से निर्वाह किया। कृष्णदास को सांप्रदायिक सिद्धांतों का अच्छा ज्ञान था जिसके कारण वे अपने संप्रदाय के अग्रगण्य लोगों में माने जाते थे।  श्रीनाथजी के मन्दिर में कृष्णदास अधिकारी का ऐसा एकाधिपत्य हो गया था कि एक बार उन्होंने स्वयं गोसाई विट्ठलनाथ से सेवा का अधिकार छीनकर उनके भतीजे श्री पुरुषोत्तमजी को दे दिया था। लगभग 6 महीने तक गोसाई जी श्रीनाथ जी से वियुक्त होकरपारसौली में निवास करते रहे। महाराज बीरबल ने कृष्णदास को इस अपराध के दण्डस्वरूप बन्दीखाने में डलवा दिया था परन्तु गोसाईं जी ने महाराज बीरबल की इस आज्ञा के विरुद्ध अनशन कर कृष्णदास को मुक्त करा दिया।  एक बार विषम ज्वर की अवस्था में प्यास लगने पर उन्होंने वृन्दावन के अन्यमार्गीय वैष्णव ब्राह्मणों के यहाँ जल नहीं पिया, जब एक पुष्टिमार्गीय भंगी के यहाँ का जल लाया गया तब उन्होंने अपनी प्यास बुझायी। कृष्णदास जन्म से शूद्र होते हुए भी वल्लभाचार्य के कृपा-पात्र थे और मंदिर के प्रधान हो गए थे। ‘चौरासी वैष्णवों की वार्ता’ के अनुसार एक बार गोसाईं विट्ठलनाथजी से किसी बात पर अप्रसन्न होकर इन्होंने उनकी ड्योढ़ी बंद कर दी। इस पर गोसाईं के कृपापात्र महाराज बीरबल ने इन्हें कैद कर लिया। पीछे गोसाईं जी इस बात से बड़े दुखी हुए और उनको कारागार से मुक्त कराके प्रधान के पद पर फिर ज्यों का त्यों प्रतिष्ठित कर दिया। इन्होंने भी और सब कृष्ण भक्तों के समान राधाकृष्ण के प्रेम को लेकर शृंगार रस के ही पद गाए हैं।
इनका कविताकाल सन् 1550 के आसपास माना जाता है ।

कृष्णदास के 'राग-कल्पद्रुम', 'राग-रत्नाकर' और सम्प्रदाय के कीर्तन संग्रहों में प्राप्त पदों का विषय लगभग वही है जो कुम्भनदास के पदों का है। अतिरिक्त विषयों में चन्द्रावलीजी की बधाई, गोकुलनाथजी की बधाई और गोसाईंजी के हिंडोरा के पद विशेष उल्लेखनीय हैं।
