सारणी में कुल18 समूह होते हैं।

कुल समूह इस प्रकार से हैं : - 

• समूह 1 (IA,IA): the क्षारीय धातुएँ अथवा लिथियम वर्ग
• समूह 2 (IIA,IIA): the क्षारीय मृदा धातुएँ अथवा बेरिलियम वर्ग
• समूह 3 (IIIA,IIIB): स्केण्डियम वर्ग
• समूह 4 (IVA,IVB): the titanium family
• समूह 5 (VA,VB): the vanadium family
• समूह 6 (VIA,VIB): the chromium family
• समूह 7 (VIIA,VIIB): the manganese family
• समूह 8 (VIII, VIIIB): the iron family
• समूह 9 (VIII, VIIIB): the cobalt family
• समूह 10 (VIII, VIIIB): the nickel family

• समूह 11 (IB,IB): the coinage metals (not an IUPAC-recommended name) or copper family
• समूह 12 (IIB,IIB): the zinc family
• समूह 13 (IIIB,IIIA): बोरॉन वर्ग
• समूह 14 (IVB,IVA): the carbon family
• समूह 15 (VB,VA): the pnictogens or nitrogen family
• समूह 16 (VIB,VIA): the chalcogens or oxygen family
• समूह 17 (VIIB,VIIA): the halogens or fluorine family
• समूह 18 (समूह 0, VIIIA): the helium family/neon family; for the first six periods, these are the noble gases
